Dr. James A. Albers
Dr. Albers has 30 years experience in the development and management of high technology with collaborations between the United States and international industry, government agencies, and universities. With experience at three NASA field installations and NASA headquarters, he has managed organizations as large as 1000 employees and budgets of more than $100M. He is first author of over 45 publications, in various areas including knowledge and technology management.Dr. Albers has led the development of the Technology & Innovation Management Program in the School of Business at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU). As a senior executive at NASA, he was detailed to PLU to establish an MBA in Technology & Innovation Management for the Pacific Northwest.
He is currently a Faculty Fellow in Technology & Innovation Management in the School of Business at Pacific Lutheran University, VP for the Knowledge Transfer Center and has been a senior consultant with the Carlson Group. Consulting specialties include: knowledge management, strategic management, innovation and change management, operations management, and information systems management. His major focus in research and consulting in the last several years is in the area of knowledge management.
His educational background includes an MBA in Management from Golden Gate University; Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State; MS in Engineering Science from the University of Toledo; and a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from Parks College of St. Louis University. In addition, he has spent nine months at the University of Washington specializing in Science and Public Policy.
Dr. Albers has taught business management courses at Pacific Lutheran University, management and engineering courses at various NASA Centers, graduate engineering courses at California State University, and given numerous seminars to industry, teachers and students. He has been on the Advisory Board for San Jose State University for 10 years, and past President of Terra Cotta Home Owners Association. Some of the awards Dr. Albers has received include Exceptional Service Medal, Equal Employment Opportunity Award and Education for Public Management Fellowship.
Since 1995, Dr. Albers has taught 17 different courses in the School of Business for Pacific Lutheran University and has developed 11 new courses. These courses include: Global Knowledge Management, Knowledge Management, Strategic Management in a Global Context, Strategic Management of Technology, Managing Innovation and Technology Change, Value Creation: Operations and Information Systems, Topics in Information Systems, Technology Commercialization & Transfer, and Management of Information Technologies and Systems. He is a current Member of Tacoma Technology Consortium and Chairman of the Graduate Committee and Pacific Lutheran University.
